Week #2 Midweek Personal Insight:

The author has set the intention for this exercise to address laziness. The word lazy is a description not a criticism.  Often times we will avoid doing the little things letting them mount up until they become big things.

I picked the kitchen because I like a clean kitchen. I noticed that if I had not emptied the dishwasher I would avoid using dishes I could not easily hand wash in order to keep my commitment. This was not actually spending the energy wisely. While I did keep my commitment and left no trace I still had the clean dishes in the dishwasher draining my energy until the time that I attended to them.

I am finding that if I just take care of the task at the time that it presents itself, it has no additional drain on my energy or thoughts. I get the benefit of it being done and did not have to face a bigger mess at a later time. I also did not have to spend an unbalanced amount of energy avoiding it.

I am lucky that I let others know of my commitment and they have not left additional messes for me to clean up. I think my ‘act now’ attitude has enabled them to also take care of their messes as what they perceive to be my mess was not getting in their way.  I am grateful for their support.

I wonder how this translates to messes in other parts of my life.  Feel free to comment, discuss or just ponder.

Namaste
